His’n’Hers – Judith & Dave O’Higgins

A heartfelt Thank You to all band members:
Judith O’Higgins – tenor sax
Dave O’Higgins – tenor and soprano sax
Rob Barron – piano
Luke Fowler – bass
Billy Pod – drums

We are absolutely delighted to welcome this extraordinary husband-and-wife tenor saxophone partnership to our stage!

Dave and Judith O’Higgins bring a thrilling two-saxophone frontline, previewing music from their upcoming third album Liquorice Allsorts, a deliciously varied mix of originals and jazz classics by Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, George Coleman, Lee Morgan and more.

This is jazz in the grand tradition of Ronnie Scott and Tubby Hayes’ Jazz Couriers, and the legendary Griffin & Lockjaw Davis collaborations – bold, swinging, and gloriously full of life. With a dream team rhythm section behind them, expect a proper roaring night of jazz, rich in melody, groove and sheer joy.

Judith O’Higgins

Judith’s story is as fascinating as her sound. Born in Germany and now based in London, she is both an accomplished forensic pathologist and a formidable jazz saxophonist. Her strong, lyrical tenor voice evokes the great Dexter Gordon and Clifford Jordan, and she has performed with major big bands and recorded at Abbey Road.

Dave O’Higgins needs little introduction to many of you. With 26 albums as a leader, a deeply personal saxophone sound and an adventurous musical spirit, he is one of the UK’s most respected and loved jazz musicians. His career has taken him around the world, performing with jazz legends and icons from Ray Charles and Frank Sinatra to Joey Calderazzo and Kurt Elling. His playing is steeped in tradition yet always forward-looking, expressive and full of heart.

“A stunning player in the neo-bop vein, with an apparently effortless flow of coherent ideas, beautiful time and a highly developed harmonic sense.” JAZZ GUIDE

“His professional presentation was an object lesson to the amateurishness of local players. His musicianship seemed boundless. Like his friend Martin Taylor did last year to our guitarists, Dave O’Higgins did to our sax players – gave them new and exciting challenges. And gave us mere listeners an exceptional night.” ADELAIDE ADVERTISER, AUSTRALIA

Above all, this is a band that communicates joy. Their music is questioning, exciting, never pretentious, and always deeply entertaining.

Come and join us for a night of big swinging tenor sax, beautiful tunes, and the special spark that only live jazz can bring. We very much look forward to welcoming you.
