Twickenham Jazz Club's Past Gigs

Winter Warming Jazz with Anton Browne
19th January 2022

Wonderful Winter Warming Jazz Night with Vocalist Anton Browne and Saxophonist Sam Walker.

This honestly was the sort of cosy intimate musical night that we all need to experience and enjoy to shake off the traditional January Blues.

Sam Walker

Sam Walker is known and loved by many Twickenham Jazz Club Members who still recall his solos with our very own ‘Kelvin Christiane All-star Big Band’. His unique sound has made him a revered sidesman for many famous performers but tonight he will feature in his own right as the gifted and intuitive musician he is.

Sam is a multi-instrumentalist. On piano, he started playing professionally at the tender age of 14 and built a successful career performing all over the world: London, Europe, The Caribbean, America and beyond, Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club to Broadway musicals. There really is no end to his talent. I was first truly entranced by Sam’s Album ‘Scottish Arts’. which was produced for the Scottish Arts Council with Will Bartlett. It is an album of stunning ballads and Scottish Folk songs on which Sam displays a breathtaking melodic sensibility and illustrates his intuitive love of drama. We become absorbed, entranced, mesmerized, spellbound even and later are left wondering if that really did happen.

Anton Browne

“I’ve been at this for quite a while now and have picked up a few things”

Self Effacing Anton Browne is truly one of our nation’s most gifted male vocalists. Growing up in an Era of legends within a family where music was an intrinsic part of professional family life ( his father was a dentist but also played the clarinet) Anton learnt, clarinet, piano and guitar from a very early age.

Anton has an absolutely beautiful, baritone, velvet voice with an incredible vocal range, charisma and charm, he loves to explore the voice as a percussive instrument.

Anton has been the vocal coach at the famous Brit School since its conception, he runs The Singing Thing and it is a total joy to be in his presence and enjoy his music.

There will be a different take on lots of classic swinging Jazz standards on Wednesday night and an enormous amount of musicality, warmth, rhythm and soul from this very gifted band.

Eric Guy on double Bass and Mike Osborne on drums and percussion.
