Tommaso Starace ”My favourite Standards”

Anyone who has experienced a glissando of language on the streets of Italy will understand the utter exuberance with which Italian-born Starace attacks and runs with the language of music” – Paul Medley, The Oxford Times

Born in Milano, Italy 1975 Tommaso has an endearing style and charm that never fails to engage his audience.

His knowledge and enthusiasm for Jazz are extensive and when I asked about his program for this evening he replied “I have been broadening my repertoire and am enjoying playing lots of new Jazz standards at the moment”.

This exploration will be our musical treat this evening.

The renowned jazz author and critic Vittorio Franchini wrote of Tommaso:

The sax is filled with voices, it sings gaiety. I like the way he follows joyful paths. I imagine him playing around with rhythm, opening up to new feelings and intensity in new way.”

Tommaso’s original album ‘Blood and Champagne’ remains one of the favourites in my collection (dare I say that it is fabulous to listen to on a long car journey!). Inspired as he is by visual arts, also look out for ‘Italian Short Stories‘, ‘Don’t Forget’, and ‘The Photos of Elliott Erwitt‘.

It is my great pleasure to present him and his world class rhythm section at our club.

We hope that you can come along

PS: Don’t forget that our Patchworks Theatre and Bar is air conditioned!
