A stunning Six Piece Band of some of the UK’s finest and favourite award-winning Jazz musicians is coming together at Twickenham Jazz Club to celebrate the great music of drummer and band leader Art Blakey. Expect An enthusiastic and vibrant sound filled with innovative solos that will thrill and delight.
Art Blakey was a raw talent. Although he was self-taught by the age of 14 he was running his own dance band and is credited with presenting consistently exciting and inspiring music for nearly 40 years.
In the early 1950’s he worked with such greats as Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Horace Silver and Clifford Brown and later became the leader of the great co-operative “Jazz Messengers” which still inspires the aspiring musicians today
Band Leader Geoff Mason is credited with being one of the UK’s finest and most versatile trombonists with an international reputation for dexterity, innovation and a warm rich tone.
In addition to running his own bands and featuring on radio2’s ‘Best Of Jazz’ he has played with many of the contemporary Jazz greats including Scott Hamilton, Greg Abale, Digby Fairweather, Derek Nash, Paul Booth and Nigel Price. He also toured the UK with Martha and The Vandellas.
