Twickenham Jazz Club's Past Gigs

Steve Waterman & Alex Hutton
‘Latin Quartet’

This exciting band was formed in late 2019, so enthusiastically were they received that overnight they became the resident band in a prestigious Brazilian Club in Berkeley Square Mayfair.

Taking the core rhythms from Brazil but also Cuba, Dominican Republic, the quartet plays many of the precise rhythms from these rich sources. From Samba’s and Rumbas, to Salsa’s and Afro-Cuban the trio combines the more familiar repertoire of Puente, Palmieri, Jobin with more obscure composers Mendez, and Ruben Bladez. However the bands strength and originality come from their approach to more familiar American Songbook classics – and to revitalize these standards through this colourful, happy and rhythmic lens shows how versatile the piano quartet format can really be .

Steve Waterman

It is so delightful to be presenting one of our most popular and experienced trumpeters for the first time at the club.

Steve is Professor of Jazz at Trinity College and has numerous Jazz awards and recordings in his discography.

For many years Steve has maintained a secret passion for Latin music. He has appeared at venues such as Ronnie Scotts and the 606 club with notable Latin bands, Cayenne, Heads South, Robin Jones King Salsa and Robin Jones Latin Jazz Sextet. He repeatedly starred at the famous Havana Jazz Festival performing his own latin-inspired compositions with members of Irakere, Afro-Cuban All Stars and The Buena Vista Social club.

Alex Hutton

Adorable Alex is definitely one of the UK’ Jazz’s hidden treasures. A fine composer, with an ear for folk and classical influences, he is a gifted, thoughtful improviser and a mainstay of the London Jazz scene. Alex has worked with the leading figures from Jim Mullen to Pete King ..and many other iconic Jazz musicians Alex has the unique gift of mesmerizing his audience with his instinctive, lyrical, rhythmic performances that always take us to a different place.

Personally I love his original compositions from his albums ‘Cross that Bridge’, ‘Songs of the Seven Hills‘ and The phenomenal ‘Magna Carta Suite’.

Come as we present the warmth and sheer sensuality of the Latin sound to encapsulate your heart.

“Alex Hutton makes vividly intelligent music that stands out head and shoulders in a crowded scene.” BRIAN MORTON
