Martin Speake – ”One of the most original saxophonists on the British scene” – Time Out
Award-winning and highly respected musician and educator Martin Speake took Patchworks centre stage on Alto Saxophone with the talented Alyson Cawley on Tenor Saxophone.
These gifted pair have collaborated on a number of projects including the music of Lennie Tristano, Lee Konitz, Charlie Parker and Warne Marsh, free improvisation and Indian and Arabic music.
A big influence on Martin is drummer Paul Motian, most famous for playing with Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett and he was lucky to tour with him three times and record Change Of Heart on ECM records together.
The music featured the standard songs from Paul Motian on Broadway volume 3 and included some of these great tunes. ‘How Deep Is The Ocean,’ ‘I Wish I Knew’, ‘Just One Of Those Things, ‘Crazy She Calls Me’, ‘Tico Tico’, ‘Weaver Of Dreams’, ‘The Way You Look Tonight’, ‘Handful of Stars”, Pennies From Heaven’, ‘Skylark’.
