Twickenham Jazz Club's Past Gigs

Maciek Pysz Quartet
8th December 2021

In the Summer of 2021, something magical happened for Twickenham Jazz Club. Post-lock-down we were holding our concerts in the garden marquee of the Cabbage Patch and had invited talented saxophonist Julian Costello to our humble stage. Julian’s performance was brilliant. In his band was also guitarist Maciek Pysz.

I was entranced as discreetly and skillfully he spoke to the audience with his guitar and with its quiet voice he had complete command of the stage and our audience. This gift is a rare skill and is why we invited him to perform for us with his own quartet on 8th December.

Maciek Pysz – Intuitive guitar genius, stunningly sincere and talented

Born in Poland in 1982 Maciek’s talents were recognised early and he naturally gravitated early to the international Jazz stage. To date, he has toured Europe, Brazil, Morrocco and many other places. He lives between Paris and London and always works with outstanding musicians including Gianluca Corona,

Daniele Di Bonaventura, Yuri Goloubev, Asaf Sirkis and our very own Julian Costello. His albums ‘London Stories’, ‘A Journey’ and ‘Coming Home’ have all been released to critical acclaim.

The band:

Maciek Pysz – Guitar

Mike Guy – Accordion

Jakub Cywinski – Double Bass

Riccardo Chiaberta – Drums

“Hi Lesley,

I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed last night’s jazz night. As you know, my knowledge is nil about the skills of music and playing it, but I thought Marek Pysz’s playing was absolutely amazing and I loved the rapport he had not only with the audience but especially with his group. They all seemed to be having fun, especially the bass player. There was such a wonderful vibe in the room.

I loved the quiet way he began his numbers so it was difficult to see where he was going, but then gradually built up to a crescendo of ‘fire’, smiling and totally in control of his brilliant group and the audience, and then gradually subsiding into calming waves and finishing with that burst of ‘fire’ again with his fingers on the strings as if they had a life of their own. He made it look so effortless.

An absolutely gorgeous evening and I hope we may have the opportunity to see him and his group in the club again sometime. Thank you for organizing such a wonderful evening.”

Pam
