Harry Diplock

At the forefront of Django Reinhardt-inspired jazz in the UK, Harry Diplock is making waves as a truly remarkable guitarist. His passion for the music, deeply influenced by the vibrant Parisian jazz scene, is infectious, and his versatility is astounding. Originally from Devon, Harry began his journey as a guitar builder, but quickly became a prominent figure in the UK jazz scene. He has played at some of London’s most iconic jazz venues, including Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho Jazz Club, and 606 Club, as well as prestigious European venues like Le Duc Des Lombards and Torino Jazz Club.

Harry is not only a performer but also an educator and co-founder of The London Django Collective. He has shared the stage with some of the greatest talents in gypsy jazz, including Antoine Boyer, Paulus Schäfer, Olli Soikkeli, Mathieu Chatelain, and Joe Webb.

Django Reinhardt (1910-1953)

Django Reinhardt
Django Reinhardt

Django Reinhardt was a Belgian Manouche Romani jazz violinist and guitarist who led a dramatic and stormy life. At the age of 18, he tragically lost the use of his third and fourth fingers in a caravan fire. Undeterred, he turned his focus to the guitar, abandoning the violin and banjo. Despite his physical limitations, Django became one of the most extraordinary musicians of his time.

Sadly, like many brilliant artists, Django’s life was cut short. He collapsed after a performance in a Paris nightclub and passed away at the age of 43. Yet, his legacy continues to thrive, with his musicianship still inspiring artists and intellectuals more than six decades later.
