Twickenham Jazz Club's Past Gigs

Benn Clatworthy & Alex Hutton

‘You Don’t Choose Jazz… Jazz Chooses You’

All the way from LA, we are delighted to welcome the brilliant musician Benn Clatworthy back to our club, on his brief tour of the UK.

Benn Clatworthy

Grandson of the great actress Gertrude Lawrence, Benn has an international following. A prolific recording artist, he has produced many highly respected original recordings and as a skilled multi instrumentalist on Tenor, Alto and Baritone Saxophone, many acclaimed performances in LA and beyond.

In my more naïve years I once asked Benn Clatworthy:

‘Why did you choose Jazz?”

he replied

“You don’t choose Jazz, Jazz chooses you.’

Benn was active in the London music scene in the 1970’s, and became a protégé and friend of Ronnie Scott. His approach is simply unique, intense and mesmerising, his tone is extraordinarily beautiful and his melodic ideas come from his heart.

He is in the UK to promote his latest album ‘Systems’.

The ballads will be enchanting, the up-tempo songs will be invigorating.

Alex Hutton

Possibly one of our finest pianists who to many Jazz enthusiasts does not need an introduction He will accompany Benn along with the superb bassist Simon Thorpe and Matt Home on Drums.
