Welcome to our new season of vibrant Jazz music to warm your soul as the evenings begin to draw in.
Our opening night features saxophonist Aldevis Tibaldi with a heart warming programme of music by the great Duke Ellington as featured on Al’s latest Album ‘Tell Duke’.
Expect classic numbers, including ‘Perdido’, ‘Johnny come lately’ and some of Ellington’s more obscure compositions, ‘Petite Fleur Africans and ‘Such Sweet Thunder.’
The choice of lesser known pieces from the Ellington repertoire allows a more personal approach and interpretative freedom to the melodic and harmonic forms, characteristic of the writing of the composers who revolved around the Duke.
Aldevis has worked with tonight’s musicians for more than ten years which creates a unique interpretative musical chemistry and is a tribute to all of the great musicians who worked with Duke Ellington.
Aldevis Tibaldi
Born in Trieste in the second half of the twentieth century. After classical studies at the “G.Tartini” Conservatory and some experience as a theatre musician, he finally arrived at jazz in 1985. Having moved to Florence in 1990, he devoted himself to various musical genres: ethnic music, rock, fusion, funky and began his career as a teacher and session musician. Collaborations include the Michael Allen Band, “Grand Wazoo Orchestra”, Leonardo Pieri Stefano Bollani, the OFP Orchestra S.Lazzaro in Bologna, conducted, among others, by Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Steve Coleman and Bruno Tommaso.
He has lived in London since 2004 where he has collaborated with Jake Vegas, Hot Orange Big Band, Jay Craig, Ian Pierce, Frank Griffith, Guillemots, Paloma Faith, his own sextet, Willie Garnett, Ray Gelato, Mitch Winehouse, Stan Reynolds, Ronnie Wood, Denmark Street Big Band, Ronnie King, Tatiana Okupnik, Krystyna Pronko, Julian Stewart-Lindsay, Roberto Pla, John Eacott’s Floodtide project and others.
He has recorded, arranged and produced several works, including three albums of original compositions under his own name, which have all received excellent critical acclaim. His first album Refuso was released in 1998.
Twentysix Three (2016) was cited among the best albums of 2016 by The Telegraph.
In 1995 he inexplicably graduated in Political Science in Florence. A quarter of a century later he acquired the academic title of Master of Music (MMus) at Goldsmith’s College in London.
This will be a truly inspiring concert to launch a great season of music.
We hope that you can join us.
Very Best Wishes,
Lesley
