To spend an evening with him is to be transported into a timeless place of incredible musicality, reassuring humour and companionship that melts away life’s trials and tribulations just for a while.
Nicknamed by the late great Humphrey Lyttleton as ‘Honoury Crackpot’ Alan’s musical discography is legendary. He has received over 25 British Jazz awards, has played with and is highly respected by many of our contemporary Jazz greats, and has also performed and recorded commercially with household names like Bjork, Bryan Ferry, Michel LeGrande, Clare Teale, Westlife and Jools Holland.
Yet although he is an incredibly accomplished multi-instrumentalist Alan remains one of the most engaging and unassuming people I know. Perhaps it is his tough Northern roots, or perhaps it is simply because when you are so gifted the ego is redundant you simply play.
The band:
Paul Morgan – Double Bass
