Jazz Season at TJC: Spring/Summer 2022

Launching our Spring season was the beautiful, full-spirited, uniquely talented and generous vocalist Sara Dowling, with Ross Stanley on piano, Dario Di Lecce’ on double Bass and Steve Brown on drums.

This time much patience and tolerance was needed by our audience as we shuffled tables and chairs to accommodate our fullest night in Patchworks Bar. Some had travelled from as far as Luton or the South Coast to hear the concert yet nobody complained. Tables were shared and new friendships were established as an exquisite hush and reverent silence ensued to hear Sara’s golden voice and share her glittering soul.

The programme started with some well-loved standards and grew into the rarely performed Billy Strayhorn Ballad “Something to Live For and Sara’s own self-penned song ”Phoenix from the Ashes”. By The second set no one could fail to be moved by a piece she wrote in 2016 ‘A Woman’s Souls‘ or equally when at the beginning of the second set hostess Lesley Christiane and Sara held a short poignant silence for the besieged people of Ukraine. This was respected by all and information was shared about local charities and collection points in our area.
Soon we were listening again to wonderful songs filled with optimism, reflection and love. Personally, I danced to the Brazilian “Samba Do Avio” and was moved by a poignant Billy Strayhorn song ‘Love Came‘ which Sara performed as a Duo with super talented Ross Stanley on piano.
Our evening ended on a high with a standing ovation for this talented lady and her band, and a magnificent rendition of “Blue Bird of Happiness” which meant that everyone went home with a little spring in their step.

So here we are in Twickenham Jazz Club 2022, happy, positive, thriving and living every wonderful gig to its fullest capacity and above all positive about the future.

If the pandemic taught us nothing else, it taught us to truly value and support the sheer joy of live music.

Every Good Wish to you and those you care for.. we hope that you join us soon,

Lesley Christiane
